People of Bihar, like us, are still not comfortable in saying Varanasi and instead of that we say Banaras.
Banaras is the holiest of the seven sacred cities in Hinduism and Jainism, and played an important role in the development of Buddhism. Some Hindus believe that death at Varanasi brings salvation. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Varanasi is also known as the favourite city of the Hindu deity Lord Shiva . It has been mentioned in the Rigveda that this city in older times was known as Kashi .
Here on, we get an opportunity of re-discovering the place with the eyes of a French Photographer Tilby Vattard. Almost half of his time of a year he spent in India-Nepal-Pakistan and his love for the place can be felt in his photography. So here you have Banaras in the camera of Tilby Vattard
