Bihari Boy, Ishan Kishan, to lead India in Under-19 World Cup

Ishan Kishan has been named captain if India’s 15 member squad to the Under-19 World Cup, which will be held in Bangladesh early next year. Rishabh Pant, a left-handed batsman and wicketkeeper, has been named his deputy. Pant recently made his first-class debut for Delhi.

Kishan is an opening batsman from Jharkhand and has proven leadership credentials. He belongs to Nawada district of Bihar. He led India to victory in the Tri-Nation Under-19 Tournament involving Sri Lanka and England in Sri Lanka.

The squad contains six batsmen and seven bowlers – Avesh Khan, Shubham Mavi, Khaleel Ahmed and Rahul Batham are the four pacers while left-arm spinner Mayank Dagar and leg-spinners Zeeshan Ansari and Mahipal Lomror add more variety to the attack.

India are placed in Group D with Australia, New Zealand Nepal. India begin their campaign against Australia on January 28 in Mirpur.
