Curfew was imposed in Jamshedpur on Wednesday following a clash between two communities over an alleged incident of sexual harassment. At least 30 people, including policemen were injured in the clashes. Several shops and business establishments were ransacked and vehicles burnt.
The administration on Tuesday night issued orders to clamp curfew and requested people not to move out of home.
“Yes, it’s curfew and we have requested people to obey the administrative orders,” additional director general of police, SN Pradhan told Hindustan Times.
He said the situation is completely under control. There has been no further incidents since last night, he added.
The government on Tuesday sent 15 companies of paramilitary forces to control the situation. Around 103 rioters have been booked till now. Police said they will be sent to judicial custody after questioning.
“We deployed five companies in sensitive areas on Tuesday evening while another two companies have been put on standby,” CRPF inspector general Rakesh Mishra said.
