Tatahir Fatima takes her teaching profession very seriously — the head teacher of a government primary Urdu school in Bihar made sure she didn’t miss taking her class even on her wedding day. Fatima teaches at Lashkaripur village under Lahladpur block of Saran district, which is about 100 kilometres from Patna, reported The Huffington Post.
In a report by The Times Of India, daughter of Syed Mohammad Imam and Shama Ara, Fatima was to tie the knot on a Saturday evening with Syed Zafar of Alamganj, Patna. But heeding the call of duty, she went to school and engaged classes before joining the marriage ceremony.
Fatima took classes again on Sunday (being a Urdu school, it has weekly off on Friday), before she was given a touching, warm send-off (bidai) by her parents and relatives. Fatima said, “I didn’t like the idea of taking long leave for my marriage as my priority has been to teach my students.”
The incident has been widely appreciated and hailed across the district. Saran’s district education officer (DEO) C K P Yadav said, “This is certainly a praiseworthy step, which must get wide appreciation.” Suresh Prasad, a retired teacher at Chhapra stated, “The appreciation earned by her is no less than any award by the state government.”
