A library of historical significance located around 35 km away from Patna would soon be ready to welcome modern readers.
In a story dated January 29, this correspondent had elaborated the significance of Gopal Narayan Public Library in Bharatpura that preserves the rare collection of manuscripts, Mughal paintings, idols, coins, among other artefacts. Yet the library failed its visitors in terms of provision of basic facilities. It also lacked proper security arrangements to preserve the history of times gone by.
Located at a mount, the library in Bharatpura village reminds the locals about the story of Raja Kanchan Singh, who had migrated from Maharashtra to Bihar. One of his descendents Gopal Narayan Singh had set up the library in the year 1912.
After highlighting the significance of the library in the report, the correspondent had repeatedly followed up with District Magistrate Patna Sanjay Agarwal to provide better facilities to attract more footfalls. Taking note of the media report and requests, Patna DM finally visited the library on Wednesday to review the facilities. He has assured a better infrastructure in the library in coming days.
CCTV cameras to be installed
The library would soon boast of CCTV surveillance that would ensure heightened security arrangements.
“I have directed Sub-Divisional officer to install the CCTV cameras in library as soon as possible,” asserts Agarwal and adds,”Further, more cops would deployed here in near future.” A mention of the library would also be made on the website.
Construction work will be done on priority
The construction work to set up several extra rooms in the library was going at snail’s pace. Sources informed that the construction work had started in the year 2014 yet it was nowhere near completion.
However, DM has given a push to the concerned officials to complete the work soon. “I regret that the work is still not complete. But I assure that the rooms will be ready very soon,” DM told us.
Overhaul of facilities on the cards
Provision of facilities like pure water, electricity, office, display board would also be the focus of DM while giving a facelift to Gopal Narayan Library.
Executive Engineers from electricity department have also been directed to do the needful. To attract more visitors, now the administration would also focus on advertising.
